Moonbounce Pioneer Bob Sutherland, W6PO, SK R.I.P.

Robert I. "Bob" Sutherland, W6PO, SK (ex-W6UOV), of San Mateo, California, died January 11 2004. He was 78.

Sutherland went to school at UC Berkeley with Bob Melvin. Bob Melvin built a black & white TV camera at the end of 1948 and put it on 420/450 MHz ham band in early 1949.

Bob Sutherland built a receiver and received TV pictures from Berkeley at his home in Oakland, CA.

He was to later build a camera and broadcast ON AIR for a short time.

Addendum: Indies doing it for themselves in the year I was born, an inspriration in thought, word and deed throughout a lifetime.
