Tom also spent his spare time playing in the local Swing Band, British Legion and Brass Bands throughout the years.

Tom taught at Meols Cop Boy's School, Merseyside from 1962 until 1991.

I was 11 years old when I first happenend upon Tom Lally the rumour accompanying Tom on his first day in my Art class; hitherto a place of dread and evil constraint to even the most creative child in that place of State education, was that his former position had been in a "State Approved School" or British Government Penal Educational Establishmnt for errant young working class boys.

Tom immediatly aquired my respect as I knowing many of those boys from that establishment. Former friends of my childhood with Irish sounding names who even in those early years took no shit and most certainly gave no quarter nor was ever asked by them.

I thought: If this Guy can put manners on the likes of the Rigby's, the Watkins, the Quinns, the Behans, the Fewtrells and lastly but by no means least...Shit! Man it's Fuckin' Mick Gilbert...RUN...then who am I?...

In my lifes experience I have found few people that would offer let alone play a positive Role in the development of a child especially one not of their own, choosing.

Whatever it was that inspired me throughtout my childhood and aided me into my adult life was a direct result of meeting this one man Tom Lally in 1962 when aged 11.

I was only one of fifty five other adolescent boys the first class of many boys until his retirement as an educator for the State until 1991.
